Adenoid cystic carcinoma - A rare kind of cancer



Adenoid cystic carcinoma is the rarest kind of cancer that usually occurs in the saliva glands under your tongue, each side of the jaw, and below the jawbone. This rare kind of cancer can also occur in the other parts of the mouth, throat, and other areas of the body, like the tear gland and the sweat gland. Very few people are affected by this type of cancer due to which it is very rarely found. This type of cancer is most common in women; then the men ad could happen at any age between teens till the old age. 

What are the symptoms of Adenoid cystic carcinoma?

The most common symptoms of Adenoid cystic carcinoma is the lump inside the mouth or under the tongue or inside the cheek. You might feel difficulty in swallowing, or your voice also may get hoarse due to the growth of the lump. But the lump does not hurt, and the worst part is that this type of cancer could easily spread through the nerves. While it spread through the nerves, you may find some pain or numbness in your face. 

What is the treatment for Adenoid cystic carcinoma?

If in case you might see any of the symptoms of the Adenoid cystic carcinoma, then you must get it diagnosed. The most common treatment of this type of cancer is surgery through which the removal of the tumor is done. You may also get the external-beam radiation therapy or the neutron and proton radiation therapy for better results.
