What Are The Salivary Gland And Its Types?

A salivary gland is a group of glands that are in our mouths to help in the creation of saliva. This saliva will help to digest the food that we eat and also give protection to our teeth and gums by clearing batteries from our mouths. This saliva contains many chemicals with water which helps us in many ways.

It contains water with mucus, salt, antibacterial substance, enzymes, and chemicals to manage the Ph level of our mouth. The number of saliva increases when we taste, smell, drink, or eat any food and the saliva will help to moist our mouth. There are many different types of salivary glands available. These are describing below.

Types of salivary gland

According to the size and function, there are two types of salivary glands available these are- minor and major salivary glands.

Minor salivary gland

In our mouth, many small glands are available to moist our mouth. There is a minimum of 800 to 1000 small salivary glands available to make our mouth moist.

Major salivary gland

There are three major salivary glands available that help to digest the food and help to clear the bacteria from our mouth. These glands are giving complete protection to our teeth and gums. These three glands are parotid, submandibular, and sublingual; these glands secret saliva through ducts.

Conclusion

All the above types of salivary glands will help people to create saliva in the mouth. And this saliva has many chemical properties for which we can easily digest any food and give complete protection to our teeth and gums. This saliva gives us complete oral protection.
